Research methodology

How Horizon Algo develops and tests automated trading systems.

Every Horizon Algo strategy begins as a market idea and moves through a structured process before publication. The objective is to turn a clear thesis into platform-specific rules, evaluate how those rules behave in historical simulation and verify the completed implementation in live operation.

The pipeline

Four stages from thesis to release.

No strategy reaches the catalog until research, development, testing and live verification have been completed.

PHASE 01

Research

A market behaviour is framed as a clear idea that can be described, challenged and translated into objective conditions.

PHASE 02

Development

The idea becomes a complete set of platform-specific entry, exit and operating rules.

PHASE 03

Testing

Historical simulation and parameter checks are used to examine behaviour, consistency and practical configuration.

PHASE 04

Live verification

The implemented system is observed in live operation to confirm that it behaves as designed before release.

01
Research

Start with a testable market thesis.

Research begins with a specific market behaviour rather than a collection of indicators. The market, platform and chart setup are defined, together with the conditions under which the idea is expected to apply.

Only ideas that can be expressed as objective rules move forward. This creates a clear basis for development and makes the final system repeatable rather than dependent on discretionary interpretation.

02
Development

Translate the thesis into complete operating rules.

The concept is implemented for NinjaTrader 8 or MetaTrader 5 with defined entry, exit and operating logic. Platform behaviour, chart setup and the configurable controls exposed by the individual strategy are reviewed as part of the implementation.

The result is a platform-native automated system that can execute the same specified logic without requiring continuous manual decision-making.

03
Testing

Use simulation to challenge the system.

The completed rules are evaluated on historical data. Testing examines trade behaviour, parameter settings and the practical configuration of the system rather than treating one isolated result as proof of future performance.

Backtesting is an evaluation tool. It helps identify whether the implemented logic behaves as intended under the tested conditions, but it cannot remove uncertainty or predict future market results.

04
Live verification

Confirm implementation behaviour before publication.

After simulated testing, the strategy is observed in live operation. This stage checks that the completed platform implementation follows its specified rules and behaves consistently with the system that was evaluated.

Live verification confirms implementation behaviour. It does not guarantee profitability or eliminate the risks of futures and forex trading.

Understanding results

What backtested and hypothetical results mean.

Historical simulation is useful for studying rules and implementation, but it is not the same as live trading. Published backtest views are labelled hypothetical and should not be interpreted as a promise, forecast or performance guarantee.

  • Past performance is not necessarily indicative of future results.
  • Hypothetical results are generally prepared with the benefit of hindsight and do not involve financial risk.
  • Actual live results can differ from simulated results.
  • No representation is made that any account will achieve profits or losses similar to those shown.
Product transparency

The information published with each system.

Product pages identify the supported platform, market and chart setup, execution type and licensing model. Where backtest material is displayed, it is labelled as backtested and hypothetical.

01Platform

NinjaTrader 8 strategy or MetaTrader 5 Expert Advisor.

02Market and setup

The supported instrument, timeframe or chart type.

03Execution

The product page identifies fully automated operation.

04Support

Licensing, installation guidance and product-specific help.
